Livestock Development for Local & Export Market;

Kambanga Ranch is ideally located in a good area, and not too far from the main Nairobi-Mombasa highway with a lot of fodder for livestock. It can therefore exploit the livestock value chain by buying good breeds and using tested and innovative strategies in livestock sector. The strategy is to restock, reseed and crossbreed with other stocks, and develop appropriate Artificial Insemination (AI) services supported with a comprehensive grazing strategy.

Construction of water pans, dips, boreholes and ensuring effective water reticulation, must be carried out. Surveillance for diseases control and feasibility studies on viable value addition opportunities are all important. Establishment of feedlots and feed rations in the ranches-to achieve faster growth and weights which is the primary work of the ranchers is critical. Dairy ranching will also be experimented by promoting dual purpose breeds.
