Kambanga DA Ranching
Kambanga Ranch (KR) is one of the 33 ranches within Taita Taveta ranches. It occupies an area of 34,000 acres of the 1.4-million-acre ranch land lying at the heart of the Tsavo ecosystem. The low-lying rangelands punctuated by several outcrops of hills are a natural resource-rich landscape, which if managed well, has the potential to create benefits to the people of Taita Taveta while providing the wider Kenya population and the greater Tsavo ecosystem with rich biodiversity of flora and fauna.
WHO WE ARE
Kambanga Ranch was established in the early 70s together with other ranches within Taita Taveta County. It was allocated to the Mgeno people who were living in the hills by the request of one of the Taita leaders who had overheard governments plan to allocate the vast chunk of land in the rangelands to retired army generals.

Our Work
Resources within KR & Opportunities

There are many opportunities within ranches that if responsibly and sustainably exploited can turn around Taita and make it an envy for other counties. In particular the following have been identified as priority areas;
Livestock Development for Local & Export Market
KR is ideally located in a good area, and not too far from the main Nairobi-Mombasa highway with a lot of fodder for livestock. It can therefore exploit the livestock value chain by buying good breeds and using tested and innovative strategies in livestock sector. The strategy is to restock, reseed and crossbreed with other stocks, and develop appropriate Artificial Insemination (AI) services supported with a comprehensive grazing strategy.
Promoting Green Economy Investments
There has been increased attention and demand for Kenya to adopt Green Economy. To ensure that this becomes a reality, the government has developed the National Green Economy Investment Strategy (GEIS), which informs key players on how to plug into the sector. KR has potential for exploiting green economy through development of a solar form and windmills around Kilibasi. This would work very well with a strategic investor. Biogas from livestock waste is also an area for exploration.
Conservation of Wildlife for Tourism
The ranches form an important corridor for wildlife migration from Tsavo to Tanzania. With the rangelands providing rash grass and right ecological system for thriving of wildlife. Most of the ranches are keen and committed for developing wildlife sanctuaries and supporting growth of tourism, including development of the necessary infrastructure like eco-lodges, hotels and other diversified tourism attractions.
Divesture & other investments
The ranch has intentions of divesting into various income generating lines. These strategic Business Units (SBUs) will be developed within the ranch and in other locations. Currently there is land in Macknon area and in Mwatate, ideal of agriculture and housing scheme respectively.
